22,000 Confederate troops under the command of General Pierre G. T. Beauregard were waiting for McDowell and his troops along a creek called Bull Run. Then, from two days Unions troops tried to find a way around the Confederates. By, July 21, 1861 General Joseph E. Johnston and his 10,000 Confederate troops made it to Manassas.
