The North had advantages during the war. Like having a network of roads, canals, and railroads. The North had 22,000 miles of railroad that were put into good use like, moving soldiers and supplies all throughout the North. The economy in the North increased. Needing the money to supply soldiers the production of iron, wheat, coal, and wool boosted. Selling products like corn, wheat, beef, and pork overseas increased greatly. The Union's economy was just growing and growing. However, the Confederates were not exporting enough resources because of the Union blockade. The blockade was apart of General Winfield Scott's two part strategy. It involved Southern export blockade and taking over the Mississippi River.
